GRUFFALO AND BEAST AT PRIX JEUNESSE

Last week, our short film ‘The Gruffalo’ by Jakob Schuh and Max Lang has been choosen as the best children’s fiction programme of the last 50 years at this year’s Prix Jeunesse in Munich. ‘The Little Boy And The Beast’ by Johannes Weiland and Uwe Heidschötter has been one of the finalists of this section as well.

CARTOON D’OR 2011


The “Little Boy and the Beast”, directed by Johannes Weiland and Uwe Heidschötter, has been awarded as Best European Animated Short in Sopot, Poland on September 15th. We feel very honored. Many, many thanks to the jury! To be in a group with Verena Fels’ “Mobile”, Damian Nenow’s “Paths of Hate”, André Bergs’ “Pivot”, David O’Reilly’s “The External World” and finally Jakob Schuh’s and Max Lang’s film “The Gruffalo” is really special.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK

We’re delighted to hear that “The Little Boy and the Beast” has been awarded as Best Animated Short Film at the New York International Children’s Film Festival. The NYICFF states as its mission “to promote intelligent, passionate, provocative cinematic works for ages 3–18 and to help define a more compelling film for kids.” We’re very happy  to have been been a part of this. Thanks to the audience and the jury!

Also the film won the German Emil Award for outstanding TV programmes for children and got the special jury commendation at the Heart of Gold Gold Festival, Australia.

STUDIO SOI IN DE STAD VAN TINTIN EN SPIROU

If you are in Brussels for Anima 2011 this week you have several opportunities to take a look at our work: Our shortfilm “The Little Boy and the Beast” will be screened on Wednesday, March, 9th at 5:30 pm in Studio 5 and a second time on Thursday, March, 10th at 9:30 pm in Studio 4. Also there is a special screening that shows only films by studio soi. The screening will include “The Gruffalo“, “Oli’s chance” and “Angel afoot” amongst others. The screening is scheduled on March 11th at 8:00 pm in Studio 4. Soi’s co-founder Torben Meier will be present and happy to answer any questions.

HAT TRICK FOR THE BEAST!!!

We take our hat off to salute “The Little Boy and the Beast” for winning three times at festivals in November: The short was given the Audience Awards at Bradford as well as at the kuki 3rd International Short Film Festival for Children and Youth in Berlin, and it was awarded as Best Short Film at the Festival Internacional de Animación Expotoons in Argentinia. In December, the Beast was awarded as the Best Animation Film at the Filmschau Baden-Württemberg. Yippee!

GRUFFALO & BEAST: TRIPLE VICTORY IN CHICAGO.

“The Gruffalo” and “The Little Boy and The Beast”, together with Soi’s Jakob Schuh, recently visited The Windy City to find that our films had won three awards at the wonderful “27th Chicago International Children’s Film Festival“. “The Gruffalo picked up “The Best of the Fest” and a Second Prize for “Best Animated Short”.  “The Little Boy and The Beast” was awarded as “Best Animated Television Production”.  We’re very happy, we had a great time there, thank you, fine people of CICFF.

GRUFFALO AWARDED IN OTTAWA

We are delighted to hear that “The Gruffalo” was awarded at this year’s Ottawa International Animation Festival as the 2010 Best Television Made for Children. Once again many thanks to the team with directors Jakob Schuh and Max Lang. Besides that, “The Gruffalo” has also won the CIFEJ-Prize at the Biennial of Animation in Bratislava where “The Little Boy and the Beast” was awarded with the UNICEF-Prize. Uwe Heidschötter’s and Johannes Weiland’s short “The Little Boy and the Beast” has also received the Award for the Best Short Film in the Minmest section of the Anim’est Festival in Romania. Many thanks to the juries!

SOI SCREENINGS

So, if you want to see one of our films there a quite a few screenings coming up:

“The Little Boy and The Beast”  will be screened in Seoul at the Seoul International Family Film Festival that takes place from 27th October to the 2nd of November 2010.

And in December, again in Seoul, at SIGGRAPH Asia 2010 (held from December 15 to 18) there will be a screening of our film “The Gruffalo”, as well as another screening of “The Little Boy and The Beast”.

“The Little Boy and The Beast” is also shown at DOK Leipzig (October 18th to 24th).

The Chicago Children’s Festival will be screening our half hour special “The Gruffalo” as well as the short film “The Little Boy and The Beast” in the time from October 22th to the 31st.

Almost at the same time but further north: The Canadian premier of “The Gruffalo” will be at the Animationfestival in Ottawa (October 20th to 24th).

If you’re in Bristol for the Animated Encounters Festival from November, 16th to the 21st you will be able to watch “The Little Boy and The Beast”.

HOORAY

We just received wonderful news from Sapporo:
“The Little Boy and The Beast” was awarded for the Best Children Short and the half hour special we did with Magic Light pictures for the BBC “The Gruffalo” received the Best Children Choice Award Silver!

We are extremely honoured and happy for both the awards and would like to give our thanks to the festival and the juries.

SOMETIMES IT’S HARD TO STAY AT HOME

Unfortunately, we hadn’t got the chance to attend this year’s Animadrid Festival. We thank the jury for awarding “The Little Boy and the Beast” as the Mejor Cortometraje Infantil.

Our short “The Little Boy and the Beast” was also awarded at the KROK Festival as the Best Film for Children and received a Special Distinction in the Short Film Competition at CICDAF in China. In Amsterdam at the KLIK Festival the short got an honourable mention, it was runner up at the Erich-Kästner-Award in Berlin.

BIG IN BRAZIL: TRIPLE VICTORY FOR BEAST & GRUFFALO

We’re delighted to hear that Soi’s “The Gruffalo” has been awarded ‘Best Short for Children’ at Anima Mundi, Sao Paulo, and was a runner up for the same award at Anima Mundi, Rio de Janeiro. Soi’s “The Little Boy and the Beast” won ‘Best Short’ in Sao Paulo and again was the runner up for the same award in Rio. The Professional Jury also awarded Marcus Sauermann’s script for “The Little Boy and the Beast” as ‘Best Script’.
